International Public Health/International Health Major

This major is a program that focuses on the application of public health specializations, the social and behavioral sciences, and policy and communications methods to the study of health problems in low- and middle-income countries and regions and prepares individuals to function as professional international health specialists.

Includes instruction in health education and promotion, research design and evaluation, infectious disease epidemiology, international health policy and management, public nutrition and food security, information systems, program evaluation, medical anthropology, international communication, behavioral sciences, maternal and child health, demography and population policy, and health care finance and economics.

What can you do with a major/degree in International Public Health/International Health Major?

In the field of International Public Health, you will likely work more on a global basis (scale) to protect people and their environment from potential hazards relative to the environment and ecology of the area.  You may recommend/apply protective mediations to control the hazards.  Examples of international public health ‘hazards’ include (but not exclusive to) disease, natural disaster, pandemic, and civilian casualties of war.

 

Jobs titles include diplomat, service employee, teacher, and advisor.  Typically, a bachelor’s degree is needed.  However, there are certificate and associate degree programs.
